Capítulo 4. Understanding your Stakeholders

The success of a resource management program depends on it meeting the needs of the diverse range of people who are all impacted, whether they know it or not, by how resources are used and managed. The more individuals the resource program can appear valuable to, the greater the degree of support it will receive, and the easier it will be to involve all the necessary participants both internally and externally to your organisation.
The aim of this chapter is to demonstrate how you might identify, and understand the needs of, the various groups of people your organization’s use of resources impact upon. A process for identifying and engaging with internal and external stakeholders is described. Developing a deeper understanding of stakeholder needs is examined via the experience of peer organisations and a discussion the behavioural and psychological aspects of resource efficiency.
