Capítulo 10. Bottom Up

The aim of this chapter is to examine some of the actions that can be taken at the operations level of an organisation so that resource efficiency and management can be integrated into your organisations day-to-day activities. Resource balances are the foundation for modelling resource use and relating it to the economic activity of your organisation. The development of resource balances and their use in identifying opportunities, devising metrics and monitoring progress are discussed.
An opportunity identification process is described, along with a simple opportunity classification and ranking scheme to prioritise analysis. The integration of resource considerations into the decision making and review processes at operations level and the how the communication of performance might be handled are examined. Finally, resource efficiency’s relationship with continuous improvement frameworks such as Lean or Six Sigma is discussed.
